"That One"-John McCain (Much Ado About Nothing?)
posted by rgroom1 1 month 2 weeks ago • 248 views
Last night during the debate, when referring to an bill loaded with "goodies for the oil companies" that was supported by Barrack Obama. Specifically, "You know who voted for it? You might never know. That one. You know who voted against it? Me."
How do you feel about this? A slight quip? A degrading comment? Racism? Disrespect? An allusion to Obama's lack of experience?

My opinion:
While I'm sure that there is a degree of respect between the two candidates, there is almost certainly a stronger degree of contempt. If this was the biggest issue left to wonder about after the debate, then we aren't looking at the right things to elect a leader of the country on.
p.s. I'm strongly against Obama '08 and I know that people are giving votes based on this kind of bull****. I've been tired of the sift being clogged with anti-elephant for the past months. I'm very disappointed in where the Republican party has ended up, and because of this, i will not vote for McCain, but he is much preferred to Obama.
p.p.s.
Write-in Ron Paul
if this is the only chance i get to express my opinion directly to the parties, then i'll give it. Bullocks to "strategic voting".

It didn't strike my ear as any more derogatory than anything else McCain said about Obama. McCain's campaign handlers are being surprising open about their strategy to work the 'Obama is not one of us' angle hard, right up to the deadline, and avoid the economic issue; this moment was simply in that mode of attack.

(I'm an Obama supporter in Indiana; his 'transparency in government' bi-partisan bill and constitutional scholar background got my attention a year ago, and he's pretty consistently kept it since. I'm voting Republican for Governor.)

Politicians are slimy, because when they run for president the slime is uncovered.

Obama does has voted positively for gun control, and supported the ban of home weapons in dc. That is my only fault with Obama, I do support the laws in certain states requiring training for ownership.

The 2nd amendment shall not be infringed.

I need not name any of McCain's faults because they are well published.

A Republican conservatives are not, they are conservatives.

A republican is not inherently a conservative, neoconservative, or the rest of that.

Pff, he's just demonizing his opponent. That's not really important.

Now if he had said any of these gems we could discuss it. "That spearchucker" would probably raise an eyebrow or two..

Personally, I thought it was McCain losing his temper a little bit. It wasn't so much the "that one" phrase in particular that stood out in my mind, but more the way he essentially snarled "me" at the end.

He sounded a bit like a kid having a temper tantrum because he hasn't gotten enough praise to satisfy his insecurity.

When you scrutinize it, the phrase itself certainly was disrespectful -- imagine if Obama had given a rant like that, pointing at McCain and saying "Guess who voted with Bush 95% of the time? That one. Who voted against him 95% of the time? Me."

The press would go nuts. As it is, they're kinda halfheartedly kicking this one around.

I'm for Obama and I don't really think it was derogatory at all. Maybe something he shouldn't have said but who cares?

It seemed unscripted to me. And because of that it revealed a lot. But, it only really matters to the undecided voters because I don't think it was enough to compel anyone to defect from one camp or the other.

P.P.P.P.S Ron Paul is not a registered valid write-in candidate in my state. Don't write-in someone unless it will be counted.

Of course this "That One" is the most thinly stretch faux outrage I've ever seen. Who cares????? OMG What if he said "that guy" or "he did"

People, the economy is gone to shit, we lose hundreds of soldiers a month. And you assholes are worried about McCain saying "That one". FFS, all the blogs need to get a reality check.

I'm also in the "who cares" camp on the "That One" quip. I generalize that feeling to much of the attacks and small lies by both campaigns, because they are expected and obvious. Then again, I did a lot of research during the primary season and made my decision on who to vote for months ago, so I'm probably not the target audience for that kind of statement.

Full disclosure: I'll be voting Obama/Biden on November 4th, though I identify as Independent. In general I dislike some Democrats and Democratic (in)action, but I outright hate the neoconservatives that represent today's Republican party, so I end up leaning Democratic nationally. I haven't researched the local races yet but I will likely cast the majority of my votes for Green party candidates.

Agreed. I think the racial hullabaloo surrounding that comment is exaggerated. He seems more annoyed and frustrated than anything else.
